Dear Fellow Workers in the Gospel Ministry of MELC,

Do you know that if you get your car fixed in Jerusalem they are likely to say that the car is now "righteous" (tsedeq)? Like stretching in the morning or a bird preening its wings or realigning our tires, much of our lives are about getting tuned up, re-aligned to the God who loves us and to His way. Being righteous means being realigned in our relationships with God primarily and from that right relationship with other people and the created world. In the book of Revelation we are given a glimpse of eternity. Especially chapters 4-5 lift back the veil on reality. And there we find someone in charge, the God of all time, the Ancient of Days, and with Him on the throne a bloody Lamb - strange imagery, but the message is clear: Jesus and He crucified is the one who reigns over space and time. The whole creation sings to His praise and glory. We tend to like to sing other songs, but this is the true song of the universe, the lost chord for which we seek. Our hearts our restless until we hear that song and our lives are tuned to its good vibrations. As leaders of this gospel ministry, we are called to sing this one song, to hold rehearsals for its singing, to offer others the rest and resolution of being righteous, fixed-up by God to sing the Lamb's praises forever. Thank you for singing with me and engaging the difficult task of directing the song in these challenging times.

Weekend Reminder, Nov 2, 2012

Thesis 62/95. The true treasure of the Church is the Most Holy Gospel of the glory and the grace of God. 

 

Celebrate the Church's treasure and the saints triumphant who lived it among us...with us this Sunday.

 

We will remember especially those who have passed on since last All Saints Day: Chuck, Eldon, Virgina, Royer and Richard.

Don't forget to turn your clock back when you sleep on Saturday night (10pm becomes 9pm; 11pm becomes 10pm; midnight becomes 11pm etc)!

On Monday evening, November 5 at 7pm, we will gather to brainstorm and began planning for ways we can serve the Lindsborg community. We are hoping to have a rep from every committee, but anyone is welcome. 

Invite a friend to church or to our Thanksgiving meal (Nov 11). If you are bringing a friend to the Thanksgiving meal, let Sherry in the office know by Nov 5.

This month we are going to look a little closer at Holy Communion by answering Luther's catechetical questions:
1. What is the Sacrament of the Altar?
2. Where is this written?
3. What is the benefit of such eating and drinking?
4. Who, then, receives such Sacrament worthily?

On Sunday, we will look especially at question 2 and the grace of God's desire to speak with us. Join us every weekend in August to (re)discover what great things God has done and does for us in His body and blood!

We are still looking for volunteers in a number of areas. Scroll to the bottom for the list and let pastor Dean or Sherry know how God is calling you this Fall.

Women's Circles Baking and Visitation at Bethany Home - Messiah baking and visitation at Bethany Home will take place Monday, August 6, at 2:15 pm. If you can furnish a loaf of rye bread, please contact Betty Holcomb at 227-2195. Be at the home at 2:15 to visit with the residents. We need people to help with the visitation, so please come if you can.
